The Center for World Religions, Diplomacy, and Conflict Resolution (CRDC) at George Mason University is excited to offer a spring break class that will give students the opportunity to serve the Syrian refugee community in Turkey while learning about the current conflict, Syria's history of nonviolence and interfaith movements, and the ethical practices of what can be built for the future.
Students will benefit from immersion with Syrian activists, meetings with humanitarian organizations, and lectures from Dr. Marc Gopin and Hind Kabawat, CRDC's senior analyst and a longtime Syrian activist.
Participants in the course will do service work in Syrian refugee hospitals and schools, hear first-hand accounts of the conflict, and discuss solutions and how to deal with the complexities of the issues.
CRDC staff have decades of experience in Syria and are currently engaged in educational projects with Syrian refugee children and in conflict resolution training programs for non-violent Syrian activists.
The course fee of $3,890 covers 3 credits, hotel rooms for 8 nights, 2 meals per day, in-country ground transportation, cultural excursions, entrance fees, and course trainers' and speakers' costs. It does not include airfare to Turkey.
The course is open to undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students from any university, and to non-students as a professional development seminar.
